Kyle's Career with Otraco
Starting out as a Trainee Tyre Fitter at Rio Tinto's West Angelas mining operations in 2010, Kyle is now Otraco's Tyre Performance Superintendent based at Rio Tinto Iron Ore's Operations Centre in Perth.
West Angeles holds a special place in Kyle's career. After completing his initial tyre fitter training onsite, he took a growing interest in the technical aspects of tyres and tyre management. Fortunate to be mentored by Otraco Engineer Greg Shaw, Kyle enhanced his knowledge and was quickly promoted to Leading Hand. With solid expertise, Kyle was selected by Otraco in 2013 to relocate to Rio Tinto's Hope Downs 4 mine as Supervisor where he established Otraco's new tyre management operations from scratch.
Come 2018, Kyle was back at West Angeles and drawing on his experience to identify improvements across a range of activities including maintenance schedules and tyre management, all of which saved downtime and costs. His work helped the team to win 'Most Improved Site' across Otraco that same year.
With his extensive knowledge and onsite expertise, Kyle was then deployed as a Relief Superintendent across several regions, and in 2020 he helped establish Otraco's tyre management facilities at the Gudai-Darri mine which is recognised as RTIO's most technologically advanced mine. Taking the Superintendent role for the New RTIO region North operations (Gudai-Darri and Yandicoogina) Kyle moved into the RTIO Central region Superintendent role in charge of Otraco operations at Greater Tom Price, Marandoo and Paraburdoo.
Earlier this year Kyle moved from onsite leadership roles to the RTIO Operations Centre where he now provides technical expertise to help improve tyre management across 12 RTIO sites in Western Australia.

Kyle says he's thoroughly enjoyed his first 15 years with Otraco.

With a keen interest in new technologies including analytics provided by Power BI, Kyle is also developing user guides and single point lessons to upskill Supervisors with the latest practices.
On the weekends Kyle is a Basketball Coach for his daughter's local teams and also enjoys weightlifting and travelling.
